Obstetricians in the multidisciplinary teams provide clinical care with midwives, trainees, other medical specialists and allied health practitioners to women from a geographical area and to higher risk women from outside the local area. In addition some women with complex clinical needs may receive clinical care in specialist clinics.
Registrars in Obstetrics and Gynaecology are responsible for the provision of excellent clinical care to women who are outpatients or inpatients of the Royal Women’s Hospital and their babies and families.
A vacancy exists at the Royal Women's Hospital for SHMO to commence in the new Medical Clinical Year. The Women's is committed to ongoing professional development of all employees. To support the clinical development of medical staff, we provide regular rotations and host a wide range of clinical and audit meetings, as well as specific teaching sessions.
Your duties will include the following:
- Provide care in consultation with supervising, Senior Registrars, Fellows and Consultants as appropriate
- Provide care in accordance with rosters, daily duties and notes to daily duties as published on the Junior Medical Staff rosters website and varied from time to time (except as otherwise directed)
- Provide care comprehensively including timely record-keeping, discharge preparation and communication with referring practitioners and those providing ongoing care
To be successful within this role you will need to have:
- MBBS or equivalent qualification
- Candidates who have obtained at least two (2) years in the role of an O&G HMO and/or at least completed one year as a SHMO within the Obstetrics & Gynaecology area of specialty by the end of 2022
- Medical Practitioner Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Clinical experience at level appropriate for position
The Classification and Salary scale will be dependent on experience and you will be appointed and in accordance to the AMA: Australian Medical Association (Victoria) Doctors in Training Agreement 2018-2021.

5North (5N) is a 24 bed medical, surgical and palliative ward providing inpatient care specialising in Women’s Health, gynaeoncology and breast cancer.
The Women’s hospital offers treatment for all gynaecological conditions and is a tertiary referral centre for women with chronic pelvic pain, dysfunctional uterine bleeding and issues related to menopause, pelvic floor problems or other urogynaecological problems. Women with medical complications in the early part of pregnancy are cared for by the gynaecology units. 5N also cares for women who are having a termination of pregnancy or who have complications related to reproductive biology such as IVF. We care for women requiring surgical, medical and palliative care for gynaecological cancers including ovarian, endometrial and cervical cancers.
The AUM’s primary responsibility is to the operational requirements of the inpatient ward (5N) and CCU, leading the delivery of efficient, effective and well planned care to women and their families.
Working with the Nurse Unit Manager and as part of the leadership team you will provide day to day leadership and management of the 5N team ensuring a positive and professional working environment. The AUM is a role model in providing clinical expertise to women and their families within a multidisciplinary team environment. The AUM is rostered to be in charge of each shift to manage the service areas and to provide clinical supervision and care coordination to the inpatient service.
The successful applicant will have:-
- Been APHRA registered as an Registered Nurse
- Minimum of three years’ experience in acute medical/surgical care
- A relevant qualification in Complex Care/High dependency nursing (or willing to complete training next available course)
- Demonstrated ability to be able to coordinate care to women with complex care needs
- Evidence of participation in multidisciplinary handovers and team meetings
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and time manage.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated evidence of commitment to ongoing professional development.

The Division of Maternity Services provides antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care for over 7000 women birthing annually. As one of the nation’s busiest tertiary referral perinatal centres, the Women’s is able to care for the full spectrum of risk in pregnancy, from straightforward gestations to those with complex maternal and fetal conditions. Your contribution
In this important key leadership position reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for the medical leadership and strategic/operational performance of Maternity Services at the Women’s, encompassing outpatient services, birth centre, and inpatient care for antenatal and postnatal patients. Working in partnership with the Director of Maternity Services (Midwifery), you will ensure the delivery of a service which aligns with our vision, mission and strategic direction.
You will also have an opportunity to drive our commitment to research and learning through your leadership and supervision of a wide range of research and learning activities, programs and partnerships.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will be a registered Medical Practitioner with AHPRA and hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (or equivalent). The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is one of four tertiary level nurseries in Melbourne
Specialist care is provided to approximately 1600 premature and medically very unwell babies per year (695 intensive care). With Tertiary partners MMC, MHW and RCH we care for the most premature and critically unwell babies across Victoria. The unit has a key role in providing education and training for local, national and international health professionals as well as an extensive reserach program.
The Women's neonatal unit has been designed as one unit both internsive and special care nursery pods: 27 NICU and 32 SCN cots. The Women's also has eight SCN cots at Sandringham. Our model of care is built on keeping mothers and babies together, underpinned by continunity and engagement with babies, parents and families who are at the heart of everything we do.
Your contribution
We currently have a limited number of permanent and fixed term positions for experience special care nurses and CPAP trained neonatal nurses wishing to work full-time or part-time in our unit.
Our dynamic team offers extensive clinical support via orientation and preceptor programs: plus a NICU education program. We also offer flecible shifts and rosters.
About you
To be successful within this role you will need to have:
- Be a Registered Nurse - Division 1, Grade 2
- Have current APHRA registration
- Have Australian Citizenship / Resisdency or hold a valid VISA with appropiate work rights

The Maternal-Fetal Medicine service manages women with high risk pregnancies in association with the other relevant departments, and undertakes clinical research into pregnancy disorders.
This position offers an experience in all aspects of MFM. Fellows will be expected to participate fully in the clinical service, research and education commitments of the MFM Service, under the overall supervision of the Director of the Department of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
About you
- Applicants must have obtained FRANZCOG or equivalent. The positions are accredited by RANZCOG for subspecialty training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
- As well, from time to time, a Clinical Research Fellow position may be available to FRANZCOG, or equivalent trainees or graduates. Applicants intending to enrol in MD, PhD or other post graduate research degree programmes with relevant scholarship support are preferred.
Specific research projects are available, but applicants are welcome to nominate their own project. Some clinical duties can be incorporated into this position.

The Senior Registrars in Obstetrics and Gynaecology are responsible for the provision of excellent clinical care to women of the Royal Women's Hospital and their babies and families.
Available to trainees who have completed 4 years of ITP training and preferably have successfully completed RANZCOG written and oral examinations. (For some rotations it is an essential requirement)
There is a mix of Obstetrics and Gynaecology rotations.
These rotations include the following:
Obstetrics: Complex Caesarean list, ANC, Specialist clinics such as Fetal Medicine, Diabetes, Multiple Pregnancy, Recurrent miscarriage, Pregnancy Day Care and Birth Centre. Some rotations will include nights.
Gynaecology: Pelvic floor unit, Abortion and Contraceptive services, General Gynaecology, Ambulatory Gynaecology, Vulval/ Dermatology, Menopause, Dysplasia and Reproductive Services
Gynaecology rotations also include Epworth Freemasons and Frances Perry House
The Senior registrar positions have been developed with the RANZCOG ATM requirements in mind and we endeavour to individualise needs of trainees when appointing and developing and finalising specific rosters.
Principal Registrar positions (2 positions) are aimed at (but not limited to) trainees in the final year of their training which would allow an opportunity for more independence and the establishment of consultant level skills. These positions also allow for input into the training and education as well as involving a role in Quality and Safety audits and presentations on a regular basis. The Principal Registrar would also liaise between JMS and SMS groups and have an important broad oversight role in mentoring and well being.
More detailed information on the planned rotations which will enable trainee preferencing to be completed and will be provided at a Senior Registrar Information Evening scheduled for the 1st June 2022 via RANZCOG. The department is well staffed with full time Neonatologists and training is overseen by a supervisor of training. The Women’s is committed to the ongoing professional development of trainees and a wide range of clinical and audit meetings, and specific education sessions are provided. There is a full day of protected education each month through the Melbourne Neonatal Fellowship Teaching Program. Trainees are also supported and encouraged to undertake research.
The Women's is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians for 18 months core and 6 months non-core training in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine. Your contribution
The Revenue Officer is responsible to the Manager Revenue Operations and is charged with providing support and assistance in all aspects of the Revenue cycle.
The Revenue Operations Officer will comfortably assist in daily tasks as well as provide insight into opportunities for process improvement through experience and knowledge sharing.
Your duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Provide support to the patients accounts team, assisting with debt collection processes;
- Assist with the timely receipt of cash takings into financial, patient account and billing systems including Microsoft Great Plains, Merlin, Karisma, Zedmed and IPM;
- Balance end of day takings against transactional reports, in accordance with the Women’s financial policy framework; and
- Be a change champion across the revenue operations team, driving process improvements across all facets of the revenue cycle, under guidance from the Manager Revenue Operations.
About you
To be successful within this role you will need to have:
- Previous billing, receipting and debtors experience in a public or private hospital setting;
- Previous cash management experience in a public or hospital setting; and
- Exceptional customer service skills with an ability to relate to all stakeholders internally and externally.

Baggarook Caseload midwifery is a specialised midwifery led unit at the Women’s hospital,designated to caring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander maternity patients.
Baggarook Caseload midwives work in a team of three dedicated midwives. The caseload midwife must value family centred care and work closely with her team, and value teamwork with the wider community both within the women's and external Aboriginal Health Services.
A full time caseload midwife will care for 40 of their own women per year, and work as a backup midwife for the two team mates. This position is autonomous and entirely on call, undertaking antenatal clinic, births, PNCITH and administration tasks.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Your contribution
Your duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Manage assigned caseload of women in an on call capacity.
- Resepct the dignity, culture, values and beliefs of women and significant others in the provision of culturally sensitive midwifery care.
- Working closely within a cohesive caseload group as part of Maternity Services team.
- Work closely with women, babies and families who identify as Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islander.
- Complete assessment of the health status of caseload women by interview, observation.
- Provide evidence based care.
- Assess, plan, develop, implement, document and evaluate midwifery and neonatal care in partnership with the women and other health care professionals.
- Provide health education for women, families, and other family supports.
About you
To be successful within this role you will need to have:
- Relevant 2 years clinical experience in all areas of the midwifery continuum; including antenatal, labour triage and care, birth, postnatal and postnatal care in the home.
- A demonstrated understanding of cultural safety and the issues affecting the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and newborns.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
- Demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of health.
- A committment to evidence-based outcomes.
- Demonstrated commitment to the provision of midwifery case in a continuity of carer model, of which focuses on the woman and her family.
- Able to work effectively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

2022 Neonatal Resident/Registrar Fixed Term Full Time Positions 6 months - Commencing 8th August 2022
The Women’s is Australia’s leading independent specialist hospital for women dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women of all ages and cultures, and newborn babies. The Women’s is a major teaching hospital with strong affiliations to the University of Melbourne, with research and education integral to its role.
Registrars and HMOs work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Neonatal Intensive and Special Care Nursery. The HMOs/Registrars, supported by neonatal fellows and consultants, also attends high risk birth and provide input for patients on the postnatal ward and babies born at the Royal Women’s Hospital who return for assessment to the Women’s Emergency Department. While working alongside trainees from the Victorian Paediatric Training Program, positions at the RWH are non-accredited for basic paediatric training unless trainees are on secondment from the Paediatric Training Program. Positions taken by RACP advanced paediatric trainees are accredited (after approval by the DPE) as the RWH is an accredited training site.
Each registrar/HMO will have a consultant neonatologist nominated to be his/her mentor/educational supervisor during their employment. Neonatal Fellows are on site 24 hours per day to provide support and clinical assistance.
There is a close working relationship with the Obstetric Department and the paediatric subspecialties based at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH).
This position offers an active education program with a focus on clinical education and research; participation in quality audits and research is encouraged and supported. Please note that basic training will only be acknowledge and accredited by the RACP for positions obtained centrally through application and interview with the Victorian Paediatric Training Program. These posts, whilst providing the same clinical exposure, teaching and learning, mentoring and supervision for all staff, cannot be used towards accredited neonatal training as per RACP basic paediatric training program. Advanced paediatric trainees can apply for positions posted here; after review and approval by a RACP Director of Physician Education (DPE) the time as a registrar at the RWH will be accredited for advanced paediatric training.
About You
These positions in neonatal paediatrics are suitable for doctors (aspiring paediatricians, obstetricians, anaesthetists or emergency trainees) with previous neonatal experience, however this is not essential. The level of experience and training status will determine if successful candidates are appointed at the HMO or Registrar Level. This position offers an active education program with a focus on research and participation in research is encouraged and supported; those appointed at the level of registrar are strongly encouraged to engage in an audit or research project in accordance with their position description.

The Women’s is a tertiary referral center for women with complex needs. The outpatient service accommodates a number of specialist clinics such as gynaecology, abortion and contraception, urogynaecology, menopause, vulva/dermatology, menopause symptoms after cancer clinics, breast, oncology, early pregnancy advisory service, chronic pelvic pain clinic and colposcopy.
Your contribution
The Pelvic Floor Unit Nurses operate within the Women’s Health Clinics. The Pelvic Floor Unit provides tertiary care to women who experience problems with bladder dysfunction (urinary leakage, voiding difficulty), vaginal dysfunction (prolapse of the uterus and vagina), lower bowel dysfunction, the postpartum management of 3rd and 4th degree tears. Nurse run clinics include continence assessment, continence management, Pessary clinic and urodynamics clinic. The successful applicant will be a team member of a multidisciplinary team comprising of Continence Nurses, Urogynaecologists, Gynaecologists, Colorectal Surgeon, Specialist Doctors in training, Dieticians and Physiotherapists
- Demonstrated understanding of continence/promotion
- Ability to perform and/or learn urodynamics procedure
- Ability to assist with outpatient cystoscopy
- Ability to work in nurse run pessary clinic
- Provide nursing support within Women’s Health and other outpatient services within the Outpatients department.
About you
To be successful within this role you will need to have:
- Registered Division 1 Nurse with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- 2+ years of experience working within Women's Health and/or gynaecological care
- Have or working towards, post graduate nursing studies in urology and continence.
- Skills in continence information
- Current knowledge and clinical experience incontinence assessment and management sessions for patients undergoing conservative management.
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Please be aware that in line with the Health Minister's Covid-19 Mandatory Vaccination Order, all workers at the Women's regardless of role, will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or hold an acceptable medical exemption.
If you were fully vaccinated (two doses) before the 12th of September 2021, you will also be required to provide evidence of having received a booster by the 12th of February 2022. If you received your second dose after the 12th of September 2021 and are not yet eligible to receive your booster, you will be required to show evidence of having received it by the 29th of March 2022.
