The Infection Prevention and Control service is responsible for the prevention and monitoring of hospital acquired infections by education, surveillance and development of relevant policies and procedures.  The primary goals of the service are to:

  • Minimise patient morbidity resulting from hospital acquired infections.
  • Minimise the risks of hospital staff contracting or spreading infections.
  • Be a resource for all matters relating to neonatal and women’s infection control within the hospital and the broader community.

 

Your contribution  

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) will function as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to provide the Infection Prevention and Control service within the framework of national guidelines and the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards for Preventing and Controlling Healthcare Associated Infections. The CNC plays a key role in identifying risks of hospital acquired infections and initiating interventions, including measurement of outcomes. They also contribute to reducing the risk of hospital acquired infections by undertaking and initiating surveillance and auditing activities.

Your duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Participate in and conduct surveillance of health-care associated infections including those required to meet the hospital’s requirements under the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services surveillance program (currently co-ordinated by VICNISS) and the Statement of Priorities.
  • Participate in the staff immunisation program by maintenance of the staff health database, vaccine delivery and education, including the annual staff influenza vaccination program.
  • Participate in the investigation and management of staff and patient exposures to infectious disease.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the systems and processes aligned with the functions of the Infection Prevention and Control service.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high quality health care, quality improvement and evidence based practice in health care service delivery.

Selection Criteria Essential: Are you an accredited Nurse Immuniser?
Essential: Do you have registration as a Division 1 Nurse or Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency?
Essential: Are you a Gold standard hand hygiene auditor?
Essential: Do you have experience in pre- and post-test counselling (HIV, Hepatitis C)?
Essential: Do you have a minimum five years’ experience post registration?
Essential: Do you have a Post graduate qualification in Infection Prevention and Control?
