Baggarook Caseload Midwife (on call) Fixed Term Position April 2022 - June 2023 – 38 Hours per week

Baggarook Caseload midwifery is a specialised midwifery led unit at the Women’s hospital,designated to caring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander maternity patients.
Baggarook Caseload midwives work in a team of three dedicated midwives. The caseload midwife must value family centred care and work closely with her team, and value teamwork with the wider community both within the women's and external Aboriginal Health Services.
A full time caseload midwife will care for 40 of their own women per year, and work as a backup midwife for the two team mates. This position is autonomous and entirely on call, undertaking antenatal clinic, births, PNCITH and administration tasks.

Your contribution
Your duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Manage assigned caseload of women in an on call capacity.
- Resepct the dignity, culture, values and beliefs of women and significant others in the provision of culturally sensitive midwifery care.
- Working closely within a cohesive caseload group as part of Maternity Services team.
- Work closely with women, babies and families who identify as Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islander.
- Complete assessment of the health status of caseload women by interview, observation.
- Provide evidence based care.
- Assess, plan, develop, implement, document and evaluate midwifery and neonatal care in partnership with the women and other health care professionals.
- Provide health education for women, families, and other family supports.
About you
To be successful within this role you will need to have:
- Relevant 2 years clinical experience in all areas of the midwifery continuum; including antenatal, labour triage and care, birth, postnatal and postnatal care in the home.
- A demonstrated understanding of cultural safety and the issues affecting the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and newborns.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
- Demonstrated understanding of the social determinants of health.
- A committment to evidence-based outcomes.
- Demonstrated commitment to the provision of midwifery case in a continuity of carer model, of which focuses on the woman and her family.
- Able to work effectively and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Working within a diverse cultural environment.
